C2 - Overstabilization and the Consequences of High CYA

Tuesday, November 5 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM « Back

Cyanuric acid (CYA) has been used for decades to protect chlorine from UV degradation.  However, we are continuing to learn more about the effects of CYA and how to manage it.  This talk will cover a variety of factors that are affected by CYA, including: water balance, testing, ORP, and chlorine activity.  We will also discuss strategies for managing a pool using CYA, current regulations, and possible future regulations.

1. Evaluate the effects of cyanuric acid on pool disinfection and water chemistry.
2. Identify current regulations and industry best practices.
3. Remediate blood/vomit/fecal contamination events using CDC recommendations.
4. Determine how to create policies and procedures for managing pools using CYA.
